Terra Constructs Supports Second Genesis Foundation

Terra Constructs is a proud supporter of the Second Genesis Foundation and has recently made a generous donation to assist the foundation’s mission of providing support to organizations and institutions involved in the prevention, treatment, education, and research related to substance abuse in the greater Washington, D.C. area.

“We are committed to partnering with community organizations assisting the less fortunate in the communities in which we live and work. We are pleased to be able to help Second Genesis provide much-needed funding to local organizations and programs focused on the prevention, education, and treatment of substance use among our youth and young adults,” said Babur R. Mian, P.E., President and CEO of Terra Constructs. “With substance abuse continuing to grow and affect young people and families all around us, I feel that it is crucial for businesses like Terra to invest in programs that provide solutions to this pervasive problem.”

Michaela Pratt, Director of Development for Second Genesis Foundation explained that community support is more crucial now than ever before, as the substance abuse problem has increased due to the isolation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. “The isolation and shutdown of communities has directly impacted everyone, but some vulnerable groups of society more than others. Since the COVID-19 related social distancing began, the frequency of alcohol and substance use has dramatically increased, with opioid deaths surging in our area,” she said. “During this time of great need, we are grateful for the support of our business leaders, like Terra Constructs, which allows us to provide additional support to individuals and families impacted by substance use disorders in our community.”

Since their inception in 2016, The Second Genesis Foundation has provided over $600,000 in essential support to address substance use disorders in the Greater Washington area.

One of the programs the foundation supports is Lily’s Place in West Virginia. As the first Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) Center in the United States, Lily’s Place provides care to infants suffering from prenatal drug exposure, utilizing proven therapeutic handling methods and the latest weaning techniques to ease withdrawal symptoms.

In addition to its ongoing support of prevention, education, and substance abuse treatment programs, the foundation also provided quick and responsive support for additional needs throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Second Genesis provided much-needed funds to regional food banks which were inundated with requests during the pandemic and awarded additional operating grants to help non-profits survive this challenging time.

Terra Constructs has joined Second Genesis’ mission as part of their ongoing commitment to support the communities they helped to build.
