Terra Site Constructors currently has a requirement for a Project Engineer to work on Federal Programs in its Chantilly, VA office. Prior experience working on projects supporting Federal Agencies is desirable. The position is responsible for reviewing design and bidding documents, evaluating contractor bids, and overseeing construction progress and scheduling. They provide technical support to the construction staff un the supervision of the Project Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides support to Project Managers in reviewing plans and other technical documents.
- Develops accurate and timely cost estimates on projects.
- Reviews plans and construction documents to insure they are complete and consistent.
- Monitors project costs and project progress on an ongoing basis.
- Develops and updates project records and schedules on an ongoing basis
- Responsible for ensuring that project schedules are maintained and met and assists in the resolution of scheduling issues.
- Interacts with subcontractors to ensure that project schedules, designs and issues are addressed and resolved in a timely manner.
- Responsible for handling and completing project closeouts.
- Responsible for insuring that required permits are obtained and in place on projects.
- Assists the project team in the resolution of conflicts that might arise between owner, contractor, and subcontractor.
- Manages and negotiates change-orders on projects
- Works with the project team on the development of the site safety plan and ensures appropriate documentation/reporting is in place.
- Develops and maintains relationships with subcontractors and vendors in pricing, ordering and insuring delivery of materials needed on the project.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering preferred.
- 1- 2 years of experience working in a Heavy Civil Construction environment. Preferably working on projects in the Federal arena.
- Excellent computer skills, i.e., Microsoft Office, Spreadsheets and other applicable software programs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail, problem solving skills and meeting tight deadlines.
- Ability to work independently.
